About LITCOMP-AI
The Computing and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (LITCOMP-IA) at the Brazilian Center for Physics Research (CBPF) is dedicated to research and technological development at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing. With a multidisciplinary team, the laboratory applies AI to solve complex problems in various scientific and technological fields.
The CBPF team has extensive experience in developing AI algorithms, particularly for issues in astrophysics, cosmology, geophysics, and petrophysics. At CBPF, AI is an essential tool for identifying phenomena such as gravitational lenses and characterizing reservoirs, estimating physical properties like permeability and absolute porosity with greater precision for the Oil and Gas industry. In February 2020, the CBPF AI team won an international challenge to identify gravitational lensing systems in simulated images, proposed by an astrophysics group from the University of Bologna, Italy.
